Hémou is part of the Gestures and Thoughts series, where I explore the relationships between the artist and the material.

The role of gesture in artistic creation is often reduced to nothing more than the execution of thought. The very essence of the creative act lies in the artist’s hand, the one that wields the gouge, the chasing tool or the shuttle. Yet can we truly understand this gesture without its manual dimension? Can we understand the hand without the artisan or the artist who uses it?

Movements become a kind of silent language, carrying a sensory and technical memory similar to that of craftsmanship, skills and transmission. In this way, gesture is not merely an intermediary between mind and matter, it is a site of transformation, where the artist discovers themselves through their relationship to form. The hand shapes but it is also shaped by what it touches.
